Heritage Buildings remain a treasure to our society and often reflect and/or represent specific architecture and culture of the people living there. These buildings having witnessed and lived through the past requires preservation of their aesthetics and appeal whereby the value is retained and preserved There are many maintenance challenges which can present themselves when the time comes to be addressed. Materials for example used in the past may not function as effectively in conjunction with modern technology. The original build, structure e.g. specific timber, mortar etc may have to be sourced and/or manufactured, may not be readily available and can be very expensive. We understand these challenges have worked at Groot Constantia as well as heritage properties in the Muizenberg area and around Cape Town. Our team is skilled in working on these structures and in retaining them to their original state, extending their aesthetic and architectural appeal and retaining their value to our society.

Project 1 – Upgrade of Windows and Doors

This beautiful property is situated right next to the ocean in Muizenberg. Needless to say the conditions and constant South Easter in the summer months creates a harsh environment for any building. Maintenance and upkeep is constant.

Our brief was to upgrade the various old and damaged doors and windows mostly on the Southern areas of the property. Our team operated efficiently and sensitively externally and within the space. Fine detail work and carpentry has resulted in these areas being upgraded to give the owners many more years to enjoy fantastic views and life right next to the ocean, not to mention the added value to the property by opting to replace and maintain these particular aspects of the property.

Project 2 – Waterproofing of 4 x Flat Roof Areas

The Property originally named ” Hof van Holland” of heritage stature was converted to a staff Village. Our brief was to Re-waterproof 4 flat roof areas totalling approximately 800m2. This required complete removal of the existing waterproofing system and screeds. A large undertaking and extremely labour intensive. All areas were re-screed with a fall to the outlets and then waterproofed with a Liquid Applied system with membrane from Sika. The project ran smoothly and required management and co-ordination with other trades working on the roof areas such as the electricians, plumbers and Solar Panel installers.
